Starcraft 2 Strategy on Scouting

Hey guys,

Scouting is very important in every game you play. When you do not scout you have no idea what your opponent is doing. Not only should you scout on 2v2 maps to find where they are exactly but you also really need to know what build they are going for.

Lets say you were Terran facing a player that was also Terran. You see them going for the standard build of 3 rax because they are going for marines and marauders. So a great answer to that would be to get tanks and hellions since these units do great against many infantry units.

Hellion attack several units at once with their flames and siege tanks have that splash effect when they attack in siege mode. They will blow marines and marauders away. And you know to go for this because you scouted for the information.

You need to always see if they are doing some kind of rush like a reaper rush. Players always like to cheese especially in the upper leagues. You must know what they are going for and understand the best counter as there is always a great counter against any strategy.

Let me use another example that I found to be common in the Platinum league for some reason which was playing as Terran against the Protoss Zealot rush. Since Protoss have the most powerful first tier units which are zealots they sometimes like to rush with zealots.

But to thing about this build is that zealots suck against marauders and reapers so that would be the counter. These units are too fast for zealots even though you will have to get that concussive shell upgrade at the tech lab for marauders to slow them down.

But anyway the point is that scouting wins games so be sure to get that important info during every game.

Starcraft 2 Strategy – Scouting

Whenever you play a game of Starcraft 2 you must always be scouting.

It is best to scout first once your economy is up and running. This is usually when you reach about 10 supply. Then you can send out a worker to see what your opponent is going for.

It is very important to know what your opponent is up to. This especially goes for the later leagues like Diamond. That is because they like to throw curve balls. There are many cheap shots that you can take in Starcraft 2.

For example Terran players like to go for that early reaper rush. Reapers are fast units that take out buildings quickly with grenades. They are very good for taking out workers. Not to mention how sneaky they are because they can jump up and down cliffs.

If you were facing a Terran player and scouted an early barracks with a tech lab then you must be aware that he is going for reapers. So you would adapt your strategy to his in order to counter attack.

To me those are really the two major skills to get down which is scouting and counter attacking. Because after you have done them well then it would easy to finish them off and win the game.

But what if they wall off their base? Get an air unit like a Pheonix to hover around and clear the fog for a minute. It is really not that hard to figure out what they are going for. Be sure to also scout for expos and proxies.
